Cobus Bekker
At the heart of Grounded's kitchen is Chef Cobus Bekker, a chef with a zest for life and a passion for food. With years of experience both locally and internationally, Cobus brings a world of flavour and a philosophy that resonates deeply: "Food is medicine or poison, choose wisely."
Cobus' journey to becoming a chef wasn't a straight path. He spent years crafting as a goldsmith and shaping landscapes before his first love—cooking—brought him back to his roots. Trained in classic French cuisine under the watchful eye of Chef Rebecca Hurst, Cobus has mastered the art of creating dishes that are as nourishing as they are delicious.
Growing up in a lively family of six, Cobus was inspired by his mom, affectionately known as "Shortie," whose love and care were evident in every meal she prepared. This foundation has cultivated Cobus's unique approach to food, where every dish is made with love and intention.
Cobus isn't just a chef; he's a vibrant and energetic soul who infuses his personality into every aspect of his work. Known for his infectious enthusiasm and warm demeanour, he loves to engage with guests, share his culinary knowledge, and create an inviting atmosphere in the kitchen.
